The panel of judges also stripped the suspended Bekasi regent of her political right to be elected for a period of five years after she finishes her prison term.
he Bandung Corruption Court on Wednesday sentenced suspended Bekasi Regent Neneng Hasanah Yasin to six years in prison and a fine of Rp 250 million (US$17,368) in a bribery case pertaining to the development of the Meikarta township project in her regency.
The panel of judges convicted Neneng and four of her subordinates in the Bekasi regency administration for violating Article 12 of Law No 20/2001 on corruption and Article 55 of the Criminal Code on complicity in a crime.
The panel of judges also ordered Neneng to pay compensation totaling Rp 68.4 million, which must be paid a month after the sentence takes effect.
“Otherwise, her fortune will be seized and auctioned. If it is not sufficient, she will get an additional six months of imprisonment,” presiding judge Tardi said as he read the verdict, adding that the defendant’s political right to be elected to a public post would be revoked for five years after she finished her prison term.
The sentence was lighter than seven-and-a-half years and a Rp 250 million fine sought by the prosecutors.
The panel of judges also sentenced each of the other four defendants to four-and-a-half years' imprisonment and a fine of Rp 200 million or an additional three months in prison.
The four other defendants were Bekasi Public Works and Housing Agency head Jamaludin, One-Stop Integrated Services Agency head Dewi Tisnawati, Fire Department head Sahat Maju Banjarnahor, and the Public Works and Housing Agency’s spatial planning division head Neneng Rahmi Nurlaili.
