Political experts say that Ma'ruf Amin may not play as big a role as Jusuf Kalla.
ice president-elect Ma'ruf Amin visited the office of incumbent Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the first steps of the political transition toward the new Joko "Jokowi" Widodo-Ma'ruf administration.
Ma'ruf, clad in his trademark white shirt, black peci cap and sarong, met with Kalla, who wore a light blue batik, for about an hour on Thursday to ask for the latter's guidance on the duties of the vice presidency.
After the meeting, Kalla gave Ma'ruf a tote bag stamped with the words "Office of the Vice President" filled with various documents detailing the rights and responsibilities of the country's number two position.
"We met and spoke with each other, first of course about the duties of the vice president, the main responsibilities, and his own initiatives, as well as ongoing work that should be continued," he said.
"Here, there are also some materials about the position," he continued, holding up the bag.
Ma'ruf smiled and thanked Kalla for the bag.
"I received a lot of information from Pak JK, I am grateful because it is very important to get an idea about the duties of the vice president and the challenges faced by this nation," he said.
