S

unday's final showdown in the men’s doubles of the 2019 Blibli Indonesia Open will showcase a generational battle between two Indonesian pairs: Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan versus Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon.

The all-Indonesian final means that Indonesia will definitely claim the men's doubles title in the 2019 edition.

Fans have nicknamed Hendra and Setiawan the "Daddies", and Kevin and Marcus have been dubbed the "Minions".

It will be the first all-Indonesian final in the category in 14 years. In 2005, Hendra, with his previous partner Markis Kido, won the "civil war" against their seniors Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto.

On the road to the final, experienced Hendra and Ahsan managed to escape another scare as they defeated the Japanese pair Yugo Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 in Saturday's semifinals.

Often saved by their calmness, especially during crucial points, Ahsan and Hendra tamed the Japanese pair, who were on fire prior to the semifinals as they toppled top pairs such as rising Indonesian duo Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto as well as the tournament’s second seeded pair and compatriots Keigo Sonoda and Takeshi Kamura.
