he Jambi District Court sentenced two Singaporeans to three years in prison on Monday and ordered them to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion (US$70,110) for smuggling lobster larvae from Jambi to Singapore and Vietnam.
Than Chen Chu Feng and Ten Cheng Ying Kene were sentenced along with two Indonesians, Hasan and Bagio Tjandra, who were also involved in the smuggling operation.
The Indonesians were sentenced to two years imprisonment and slapped with a Rp 1 billion fine.
They were charged under Article 16 of Law No. 31/2004 on fisheries.
The four were declared guilty of distributing and/or removing a species, leading to losses to the Indonesian people and the state, or cultivating fish outside of Indonesian territory. (gis)
