Brawl at Manggarai trouble spot disrupts train services

Some 300 residents of South Manggarai, South Jakarta, and Menteng Tenggulun, Central Jakarta, fought a brawl on Wednesday afternoon around Manggarai Station, causing disruption to commuter line train services. South Jakarta Police chief Comr. Sr. Bastoni Purnama said the brawl broke out at 4.14 p.m. when South Manggarai residents attacked Menteng Tenggulun residents who planned to hold a meeting near the Jayakarta pedestrian bridge. "They attacked with stones and fire crackers, causing a brawl to break out on the railway near Manggarai Station,” he said as quoted by tempo.co. Bastoni said the brawl was broken up after Menteng Police officers fired tear gas to disperse the mob. However less than five minutes later another clash erupted near the Jayakarta bridge.
