P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo might have another politician in the family as his son-in-law Bobby Nasution is reportedly getting friendly with political parties. The husband of Jokowi’s daughter, Kahiyang Ayu, has visited executives of the NasDem Party in Medan, North Sumatra.

Bobby was accompanied by his uncle, Doli Sinomba Siregar, in a meeting with NasDem executives including the head of the party’s North Sumatra executive board, Iskandar, and head of its Medan executive board, Afif Abdillah. The private meeting was allegedly about Bobby running in next year’s Medan mayoral election.

After the meeting, Bobby told the press that the meeting was about a mayor’s functions and tasks, but there was no discussion about his running for office.

“We are still discussing it. There was no special discussion. We talked very little about politics,” Bobby said at the NasDem office on Jl. Monginsidi, Medan.

However, Bobby said his father-in-law had given his blessing.

Bapak [Jokowi] always says [whatever they want to do] depends on the children. What is most important is to believe [in ourselves],” Bobby said.

He also said he was friendly with the North Sumatra political parties. Some of his family members are in politics too, he said. His brother serves as North Sumatra council member from the NasDem Party, while his uncles are members of the Golkar, Hanura and Gerindra parties.
