While the President remains tight-lipped about the chosen members of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) supervisory board, several names have been making the rounds as potential board members. Aside from two judges with impeccable track records, Artidjo Alkostar and Albertina Ho, most candidates are figures with strong political ties.
resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to announce the five members of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) supervisory board on Friday.
"It is not yet final because there will only be five members. They are judges, prosecutors, former KPK leaders, economists, academics and criminal experts," Jokowi said in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday.
“I guarantee they are all good names.”
The supervisory council, as mandated by the revised KPK Law, will hold the power to oversee the antigraft body, including approving or denying wiretapping, confiscation and search warrants.
While the President remains tight-lipped about the chosen candidates, several names have been making the rounds as potential board members.
Aside from Artidjo Alkostar and Albertina Ho, two judges with impeccable track records, most candidates have strong political ties.
Among them are Taufiequrachman Ruki, former KPK chairman who is now the United Development Party’s (PPP) judicatory chief, and Crescent Star Party (PBB) cofounder Hamdan Zoelva.
