Six of Anies' officials resign in four months

Anies said that Subejo’s resignation would not impact Jakarta’s flood mitigation efforts, adding that he had appointed an acting chief, Sabdo Alaf, as a temporary replacement.

ix high-ranking officials in the Jakarta administration have resigned over the last four months after a series of reported “controversies” rocked Governor Anies Baswedan’s administration.

The administration has been under public scrutiny over the past months for issues including a questionable allocation in the 2020 Jakarta draft budget last year and this year’s flood-management measures.

Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Subejo and Jakarta Housing and Settlement Agency head Kelik Indriyanto are the latest two officials to leave their position. Both Subejo and Kelik resigned on Monday.

Subejo resigned amid massive floods that hit the capital city last week. It was the latest in a string of severe floods in Jakarta starting in early January. The floods paralyzed public facilities, claimed the lives of at least three people in the city of Jakarta – out of nine killed in Greater Jakarta – and displaced 19,901 residents.

Jakarta Employment Agency head Chaidir said Subejo claimed that the resignation had nothing to do with the recent flooding.

"He expressed his intention to apply for a teaching position in mid-January," he said on Wednesday.

He said Subejo chose to resign from his position to apply for a position to train and teach civil servants, which would allow him to prolong his career until the age of 65.
