Pertamina is making strides toward meeting the 2025 energy mix target as the ink dries on an MoU for installing a solar power plant at the national sports complex.
tate-owned oil and gas holding company Pertamina plans to install a 1.2-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power station at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) to power the sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
Its subsidiary PT Pertamina Power Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GBK management on Tuesday, March 16, to install the solar power plant that is to begin operating later this year.
The two parties have agreed to conduct a feasibility study to determine the most suitable type of PV panels to install in terms of structural compatibility with the stadium, as well as the necessary electrical system and other technical aspects.
“Other than meeting renewable energy commitments, we can also improve the economics [of renewables] and support the development of sustainable businesses as per the ESG standards,” Pertamina president director Nicke Widyawati said on Tuesday in a statement, referring to the globally recognized environment, social and governance business standards.
On the same day, Pertamina also signed an MoU with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to install a solar power plant at the university’s campus in Yogyakarta. It did not provide any details on the planned capacity or a time frame for the project.
Pertamina, one of Indonesia’s largest state-owned enterprises by assets, is planning to operate green power plants with a total installed capacity of 10,000 MW by 2026 in line with its commitment to the 2025 national energy mix target of 23 percent. Indonesia reached a renewable energy share of 11.51 percent in 2020.
