Coffee is gaining a robust popularity nowadays, but tea also has dedicated fans. Many Indonesian businesses offer authentic teas to those interested in trying unique varieties, and some also support local farmers. The following are teahouses, boutiques and artisan brands that provide some of the country’s most soothing brews.
Havel Tea
Established in 2018, Havel Tea takes great pride in offering artisan teas that are expertly crafted, processed, blended and packed by local women who live near its factory. Guests can visit the Haveltea Pantjoran Pop-Up teahouse from Monday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. or order its tea online from several marketplaces. Its premium-grade teas range from Rp 15,000 (US$0.99) to Rp 210,000.
Havilla Tea
Havilla Tea House, founded in 2014, tries its best to live up to its name: "a place where gold is found, rivers flow, and plants thrive". It primarily offers white, green, oolong and black tea. Guests can purchase its products on its official website havillatea.com or at multiple marketplaces, which are operational from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Its selection of teas ranges from Rp 95,000 to Rp 135,000.
OZA Tea
OZA Tea, an Indonesian tea blending company, was established in April 2020. Its blends exclusively use black tea CTC, oolong tea, genmaicha (brown rice tea), pure matcha (powder green tea), sencha and hojicha. The last two are different types of green tea. Its products are for sale at various marketplaces or at its two-floor tea shop in Bandung, which is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prices range from Rp 12,500 to Rp 95,000.
Singabera Tea
Singabera Tea is a tea brand from a Surakarta-based company that began producing original natural ginger health beverages in the 1990s and has since earned customers' trust in Europe and North America. Singabera Tea's main ingredients for blending include white, green, black and oolong tea. The teas cost between Rp 52,000 and Rp 125,000 and are available online.
Savis Tea
Savis Tea is an Indonesian artisan tea brand known for its sekar kedhaton (palace flower), which used to be a term for the king's eldest daughter. The blend combines high-quality white tea leaves with antioxidant-rich green tea, roses and exotic Indonesian spices. The company’s teas range in price from Rp 38,500 to Rp 400,000 and are available at several marketplaces.
TEMA Tea
TEMA Tea has been in operation since 2017. Its main ingredients for blending are chamomile, lavender, lemongrass, organic long-form black tea, black saffron, light oolong tea, silver needle white tea and organic rolled green tea. TEMA's premium products can be purchased online via its official website or marketplaces. Prices start from Rp 90,000 to Rp 145,000.
Lewis & Carroll
Lewis & Carroll opened its doors for the first time in 2015. Its blends frequently include black tea, hibiscus, chamomile, white tea, Balinese oolong tea, organic silver white tea and Chinese green tea. The teahouse is located on Jl. Bumi No. 4 in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. It serves premium teas and other delicacies at varying prices, ranging from Rp 40,000 to Rp 250,000, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
SILA Tea
SILA Tea is an artisan tea brand that often offers special collaboration series with famous Indonesian personalities. One of its specialty teas, Royal Emerald, is made from green tea and wrapped in a premium nylon tea bag. SILA Tea's headquarters are in Bogor and are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Sunday to Saturday. The products are also available online, ranging between Rp 12,000 and Rp 930,000.
Siang Ming Tea
Siang Ming Tea is a tea shop that has been in business for more than 22 years. The Qian Li Xiang, the signature tea, is a Wuyi rock tea grown in the Wuyi Mountains of China’s Fujian province. This tea has a mildly sweet flavor and an aroma of ripe fruit. The tea shop is located in Mangga Dua Square, North Jakarta, and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its quality products are available online, ranging from Rp 10,000 to Rp 1 million.
Tsujiri Tea House
Tsujiri Tea House was originally founded in Japan in 1860. The teahouse is a tea lover's paradise, especially for matcha enthusiasts. The main beverage at this teahouse is Japanese O-matcha, served within its cozy premise that boasts Japanese vibes. Enjoy authentic Japanese tea with prices ranging from Rp 30,000 to Rp 53,000 at its Neo Soho Mall, West Jakarta, branch.
Huize Van Wely
Huize Van Wely is a luxurious dessert shop founded in 1922. Located in Kemang, South Jakarta, its tea is served alongside dessert and savory snacks. The main ingredients in the house's signature blends are Earl Grey tea, green tea, French vanilla, chamomile and peppermint. Huize Van Wely is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering soothing beverages that cost between Rp 50,000 and Rp 58,000.
Leaf Connoisseur by Tea Et Al
Tea Et Al is a cutting-edge international artisan tea brand. Its signature tea is Black Peach Tea, which combines sweet-smelling purple rosebuds and lily blossoms with fine black tea leaves to create a calmingly sweet fruity flavor and floral aroma. The brand’s teahouses can be found in Jakarta’s Plaza Indonesia, Pacific Place, Plaza Senayan and Lippo Mall Puri, St. Moritz, offering a wide array of fragrant brews for between Rp 42,000 and Rp 79,000.
Pantjoran Tea
Pantjoran Tea, a tea shop with a Chinatown vibe, has been in business since 2015. Its “refreshing oolong tea”, made from oolong tea, honey, fresh mint leaves, orange slices, lemon juice and crushed ice, is the shop's most famous. Located on Jl. Pancoran in Glodok, West Jakarta, the shop is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., brewing classic tea blends for only Rp 38,000 per cup.
House of Tea (Poncol)
The House of Tea has been open since 2017, offering teas for between Rp 15,000 and Rp 24,000. Unlike the other teahouses on the list, this teahouse is actually a private home designed to make visitors feel at ease. Iced carica tea and iced green tea with lemon are the signature drinks, using mainly white tea, green tea and black tea in the blends. Guests can visit this teahouse on Jl. Poncol in Cilandak, South Jakarta, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Seduh Pertama
Seduh Pertama, a company founded by Alvi Faidaturrosyida and Ahmad Sabri, sells a variety of artisan teas and tisanes. One of its most popular products is called “Maldives”, a caffeine-free tisane mainly composed of pea flowers, lemongrass and mint. The brand also sells teaware and bulk-order products at several online marketplaces. The tea products from this brand cost between Rp 1,900 and Rp 169,000.
Gaia Teh Indonesia
Gaia Teh is located in the west wing of the Grand Indonesia mall in Jakarta. It sells Indonesian red pearl black tea, chrysanthemum tea, gunpowder tea and chamomile tea for blending, and some are available online through the marketplaces. The teahouse is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and its beverages range in price from Rp 29,000 to Rp 149,900.
Kualitea (Artisan Tea and Coffee House)
Kualitea is located at Rumah Btari on Jl. Cilandak Dalam No. 3 in Cilandak, South Jakarta, and opened its doors in March 2022. The teahouse’s primary beverage is white needle tea, but it also offers green tea, oolong tea and black tea. Kualitea also has artisan blend teas called Srikandi, Gendhis, Adistea, Praya, Kamelia and Rayendra. Its business hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The tea costs between Rp 55,000 to Rp 120,000.
Chemistea Bar & Store
Chemistea Bar & Store is a teahouse in the heart of Bogor, West Java. It mainly uses green tea for its blends. Blushing Berry Tea Blend, Kiss Sparkling Tea Blend, Happy Go Mango Tea Blend and Earl Grey Milk Tea are its most popular non-green tea products. It is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and prices start from Rp 15,000 to Rp 25,000.
CHAVATY
CHAVATY opened its first international location in Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta, in June 2018. The teahouse offers three types of tea: hojicha, matcha and Ceylon tea. Its hojicha was developed for the Indonesian palate and is distinct from the ones known in Japan. Its doors are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m, and a cup of tea is priced between Rp 46,000 and Rp 98,000.
Sofia at the Gunawarman
Sofia at the Gunawarman, established in 2016, is known for offering a selection of organic tea, including Earl Grey, English breakfast, chamomile, peppermint, sencha and jasmine pearl. The high-end restaurant can be found on Jl. Gunawarman No. 3, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m, and a cup can cost up to Rp 150,000.
