ollowing a breakthrough 2025 season that saw her storm into a Grand Slam main draw and lift a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 trophy, Indonesia’s Janice Tjen is resisting the temptation to set lofty targets in her second year on the professional circuit.

The 23-year-old noted that competing in back-to-back tournaments on the WTA Tour was still a new experience for her, and that she preferred to enjoy it while showing her latest chops.

“In every tournament, I don’t have any specific target about what I should be achieving,” she said on Wednesday in an exclusive virtual interview with select Indonesian media, including The Jakarta Post.

“All I think about is how I can do better than the previous tournaments, how I can showcase the things I’ve been trying to improve.”

Janice first stepped into the WTA Tour at last year’s US Open, advancing through the qualifiers to become the first Indonesian woman to play in a Grand Slam main draw since Angelique Widjaja in 2004. She followed that historic run by capturing her maiden WTA Tour title at the Chennai Open 2025, rising from world No. 578 to become a top 50 player in just a year.
