View all search resultsFollowing the expiry of the Feb. 24 implementation deadline, the government is preparing to assess the EU's compliance with a 2025 WTO dispute ruling over its discriminatory policies against Indonesian palm oil.
While EU authorities would deny that protectionism is the main motive and would point instead to what they deem to be unfair trade practices on Indonesia’s part, the duties in effect protect EU-based steelmakers and rapeseed biodiesel producers.
The Trade Ministry is still considering its next steps in disputes concerning steel and biodiesel, where World Trade Organization rulings in Indonesia’s favor cannot be enforced because of the European Union appeals.
