In light of a recent backlash against a road cyclist peloton on social media, other cyclists and cycling communities have spoken up on the ethics that cyclists should follow, while also reminding each other that they are a “minority” among other vehicles.
Cycling communities have lauded the local administration's plan to install protected bicycle lanes and expand existing lanes to provide safety for the city's growing population of bike commuters.
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) – a global NGO that promotes sustainable transportation and urban development – recorded a tenfold increase in the number of cyclists along Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta from one morning last year to one morning this year.
