View all search resultsTransportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has encouraged people to use public transportation during the mudik season to prevent traffic accidents, expressing his commitment to providing optimum service to the public during this year’s Idul Fitri.
With Idul Fitri less than a week away, the government has reported a spike in the number of Indonesians on the move, particularly using modes of public transportation, as the country’s biggest mudik (exodus) season yet is almost in full swing.
While the Health Ministry said that a recent uptick in the daily caseload and five new Arcturus cases were nothing to worry about, it still urged holiday travelers to take precautionary measures, including making sure their vaccinations were up-to-date.
With the 2023 mudik (exodus) season expected to see a record of more than 120 million Indonesians traveling across the country, authorities plan to temporarily open 11 new toll roads across Java and Sumatra to accommodate travelers.
The government is urging holidaymakers to start traveling to their hometowns earlier in hopes of avoiding widespread traffic congestion during the upcoming Idul Fitri holiday, which is expected to be the biggest mudik (exodus) season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
