View all search resultsThe Indonesian government is set to hand over 373 fishing boats to fishermen cooperatives this month in an effort to boost their catches, said the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry’s fish catch director general Sjarief Wijaya in Jakarta on Thursday.
The government is distributing 7,500 new pieces of fishing equipment this year to replace cantrang -- kind of Danish seine net identified as unsustainable and not environmentally friendly -- whose deployment will be prohibited starting from December.
