View all search resultsThe House of Representatives’ special committee to inquire into the government’s management and organization of this year’s haj has concluded its month-long investigation and come up with several recommendations, including that the next government find a better religious affairs minister.
Saudi officials said residents from 160 countries competed in the government-run lottery that many described as an opaque selection process -- bringing elation to up to 10,000 people while leaving the vast majority disappointed.
The Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) has suggested the government cooperate with countries that do not use their full haj quota. ICMI chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie said strengthening coordination to use vacant haj seats belonging to other countries was a positive thing and would not violate the law.
