View all search resultsThe Indonesian government envisions contributing 4,000 peacekeeping personnel by 2019 — an increase from the current 2,857 currently serving in UN peacekeeping missions. If this vision is achieved, Indonesia could become one of the world’s top ten contributors to UN peacekeeping. The UN strongly supports Indonesia’s peacekeeping goals. Since the first deployment of Indonesian peacekeepers in 1957, 34,371 Indonesian soldiers have served around the globe, risking their own lives to save others — to date 34 Indonesian soldiers have lost their lives in the service of peace and humanity.
The UN peacekeeping chief said Tuesday that the United Nations — which has 80 percent of its peacekeepers deployed in Africa — is very happy that the African Union's long-awaited rapid reaction force will become a reality in July.
Republicans and Democrats on Wednesday expressed disgust over dozens of sexual abuse allegations against United Nations peacekeepers and called on the State Department to help end the abuse by cutting off foreign aid to countries that won't hold their troops accountable.
