According to the KPK, Abu Bakar filed a request in May for a reclamation project at Tanjung Piayu that would later be used as a resort and tourist area, even though the site was previously reserved for land cultivation and a protected forest.
Anies explained that the Jakarta administration signed a cooperation deal with a private developer in 1997 concerning land reclamation in Jakarta Bay. According to the deal, the private developer would receive 35 percent of the land use rights.
Lines of marketing billboards selling luxury houses and apartments stood at the entrance to reclaimed islet D when The Jakarta Post visited the area on Tuesday. The advertising billboards state the prices of residences on the island vary from Rp 3.4 billion (US$238,663) to Rp 6.2 billion, depending on size.
