On the heels of World Disability Day this month, communities and organizations advocating for people with disabilities are calling for better access to justice to end violence against women with disabilities.
As reported incidents of violence against women in the country rise yearly, activists are pushing for a justice system that properly considers victim’s rights, as thousands of gender-based violence cases sit stalled in the investigation stage.
A phone app that allows women in the Palestinian Gaza Strip to report domestic abuse anonymously is allowing growing numbers of victims to seek help while avoiding the shame and reprisals that put many off going to the authorities directly.
More cases of violence against children and women were reported to the authorities in 2021 than in previous years, with most cases occurring in households, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga said.
