ouchsurfing International Inc., a hospitality exchange and social networking platform, plans to release a new feature called ‘Hangout’ on June 27.
‘Hangout’ enables travelers to expand their travel experience by meeting up with fellow travelers and organizing adventures together, getting together for a meal or a cup of coffee with locals or offering a seat in a vehicle for a scheduled day trip. When not traveling, users can also make use of the feature to find new friends and join activities in their hometown.

“We developed hangouts because there needed to be an easier way for people to find others to meet nearby, whether you are in your hometown or halfway across the world,” says Couchsurfing spokesperson Allison Shea. “Hangouts allows users to meet new people a little more spontaneously,” Allison added.
Established in 2004, Couchsurfing International Inc. aims to build a network between travelers and generous locals who are willing to share their homes in order to create more social and authentic travel experiences. The network has more than 12 million members. There are currently 25,000 members signed up as hosts in Jakarta.
The new feature will be available for use on the Couchsurfing mobile app for iOS and Android. (asw)
