Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Wednesday in Bali, during which they discussed the situation in Ukraine and its impacts on the global food supply chain.

Retno expressed her appreciation for Borrell's attendance at the upcoming Group of 20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (G20 FMM) on Thursday and Friday, which would be held during a challenging global situation, according to Kompas.id.

Borrell said that the EU supported Indonesia’s G20 presidency this year.

“We support the G20 chair to find multilateral solutions to global problems – which remains as needed as ever, while Russia’s war against Ukraine shatters foundations of the rules-based order,” he tweeted on Wednesday night after his meeting with Retno.

The FMM in Bali is likely to be the first G20 meeting to address the war in Ukraine in a constructive manner. The two-day meeting takes place a week after President Joko Widodo’s diplomatic visit to Ukraine and Russia to seek a peaceful settlement to the war.

He also sought a solution to the resulting blockade and supply chain disruption from a war that has killed thousands of people and displaced millions of Ukrainians.

The EU representative office in Jakarta stated earlier that Borrell would use the FMM to “recall that current circumstances need more multilateralism and global solutions than ever”.

Also on Wednesday, Retno held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Argentina and Senegal, respectively Santiago Cafiero and Aissata Tall Sall.

Tall Sall is to attend the G20 FMM in her capacity as a representative of the African Union, which is chaired by the Senegalese President this year.
