P

resident Joko Widodo called on Wednesday for stronger cooperation to develop infrastructure under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

In a speech delivered for the third Belt and Road Forum (BRF) in Beijing on Wednesday, Jokowi also called for countries not to "politicize" infrastructure development under the Chinese-led BRI.

"I hope that the synergy in the BRI infrastructure development can continue, and in the midst of an increasingly divided world, the BRI cooperation should not be politicized. This requires our joint efforts to uphold the core values so that this initiative becomes stronger and more impactful," said Jokowi.

The President called for a sense of ownership for the sustainability of BRI projects among countries joining the initiative.

Jokowi also touted the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project as an example of independent efforts to implement projects under the BRI.

President Jokowi, who was on his second visit to China this year, added that BRI projects should be based on equal and mutually beneficial partnership principles. "They should be supported by meticulous planning, transparent financing systems, the utilization of local labor and the use of domestic products," he continued.

In the latter part of his speech, Jokowi also invited collaboration for his Nusantara capital city project in East Kalimantan.
