China Coast Guard hosted Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) in a first-ever high-level meeting in Beijing.
he leaderships of the coast guards of China and Indonesia held their first high-level meeting in Beijing on Thursday to strengthen maritime safety and security in the region.
China Coast Guard (CCG) director general Maj. Gen. Yu Zhong hosted Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) chief Vice Adm. Irvansyah in a meeting discussing various strategic issues, as well as ways to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the maritime sector.
The meeting was expected to strengthen cooperation in facing global maritime challenges such as transborder crimes, smuggling and maritime resources theft, Bakamla said in a press release on Thursday.
Irvansyah emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation to maintain regional stability.
“The meeting is not only a symbol of the close relations between both institutions but also a joint commitment to create a safe, peaceful and prosperous maritime region,” he said, as quoted by the press release.
Accompanying Irvansyah were acting Bakamla secretary Rear Adm. Samuel Kowaas and cooperation director Cdre. Askari.
Previously, Irvansyah already met with Yu on the sidelines of the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) and Friends event in Hanoi on Dec. 18, 2024. Yu extended the invitation for Irvansyah to visit China in January during the meeting in Hanoi.
