S

peaking before Turkish lawmakers in Ankara on Thursday, President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s solidarity with Turkey on the issue of Palestine, calling for both nations to adopt a “firm” stance and position themselves as a constructive and “important force” within the Islamic world and the Global South.

With many so-called pro-democracy and pro-human rights countries remaining silent in the face of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, the President stated that nations like Turkey and Indonesia must cooperate closely to establish a peaceful world order free from oppression.

“When children and innocent mothers are bombarded, and while the people of Gaza have lost their livelihoods, we see a slew of countries falling silent, pretending that they are not aware, feigning ignorance that this is a human rights violation,” Prabowo said in his speech at the Turkish Parliament Building.

“But Turkey has always had a firm attitude. For this reason, we feel that we want to be with Turkey in its endeavor to defend justice and truth in a world now filled with uncertainty.”

Prabowo arrived in Turkey on Thursday afternoon, following a stopover in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to begin the second leg of his five-country Middle Eastern tour slated to discuss the latest geopolitical and economics developments with the region’s leaders.

Landing at the Ankara Esenboga Airport, Prabowo was personally welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he met in February during an official state visit to Bogor, West Java.
