View all search resultsresident Prabowo Subianto is in London to begin his week-long trip to the United Kingdom and Switzerland, where he is set to hold talks with a string of world leaders on security, education and economic cooperation against the backdrop of heightened global tensions.
Prabowo arrived at Stansted International Airport on Sunday night and met with Indonesian diaspora members at his hotel in London before concluding his first night. Over the following few days, the President is slated to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III as part of his official engagements in the UK, official statements said.
“There are several key items on the President’s visit, including the signing of a maritime partnership agreement with the UK,” State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told a press briefing on Monday in Jakarta, adding that conservation efforts and education cooperation would also be discussed during the first leg of Prabowo’s itinerary.
“From the UK, [the President] will travel to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum. His participation in the WEF, is, of course, part of our efforts to open up potential cooperation with partnering countries,” Prasetyo said.
Rising global political tensions over ongoing international conflicts form the backdrop to Prabowo’s first overseas trip of the year. The trip comes just days after his top diplomat Sugiono laid out what experts described as a clearer outline of Indonesia’s foreign policy for 2026, compared with last year when Prabowo’s domestic flagship programs, including the free meals initiative, took center stage in Sugiono’s first foreign policy speech.

Just as Jakarta stressed its emphasis on a resilience-focused foreign policy, Prabowo’s meeting with Starmer and King Charles would focus on issues central to Indonesia’s strategic interests, including cooperation to build fishing vessels for Indonesian fishermen, Prasetyo said.
