View all search resultsresident Prabowo Subianto has arrived in Abu Dhabi to bolster bilateral ties with the United Arab Emirates and advance Jakarta’s regional diplomacy, marking the fourth stop of his overseas tour during which Gaza has often emerged as a central issue.
Landing on Wednesday evening at the Presidential Flight terminal at the Zayed International Airport, Prabowo received a stately welcome from Emirati Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem al-Dhaheri, as well as the Indonesian envoy to the UAE, Judha Nugraha.
According to an official release from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo is scheduled to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan on Thursday to discuss a range of bilateral cooperation issues, though details of the talks had not been disclosed by either side at the time of writing.
“The [bilateral] meeting and the cooperation agenda scheduled during the visit are expected to further strengthen the longstanding and close bilateral ties between the two countries,” Wednesday’s statement said.
“The trip to Abu Dhabi also underscores the continuity of Indonesia’s active diplomacy in the region, reaffirming Prabowo’s commitment to expanding mutually beneficial global partnerships,” Prabowo’s office added.
Prabowo’s visit to the UAE marked the latest leg of his weeklong international tour, following stops in London and Jordan after attending last Thursday’s inaugural Board of Peace meeting in Washington, a United States-led platform focused on Gaza’s post-war reconstruction.
Both the UAE and Indonesia are members of the Board of Peace, with Abu Dhabi pledging US$1.2 billion in financial contributions to the platform last week, while Jakarta has promised a peacekeeping contribution of around 8,000 troops to the board’s International Stabilization Force (ISF).
