P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and top government officials have wrapped up a visit to China during which their hosts expressed interest in investing in Indonesia’s downstream industries and in importing more palm oil from Southeast Asia’s biggest economy.

According to a statement made by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, who was part of the Indonesian delegation, President Jokowi and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China discussed potential investments in the field of “green economic development,” including renewable energy and electric vehicles.

Both sides also explored the possibility of increasing investment in the downstream petrochemical industry and technology as the government doubles down on efforts to accelerate the industrialization of Indonesia.

The President and his entourage left Beijing for Japan and South Korea as the next stops on a diplomatic trip to East Asia.

“China is Indonesia's comprehensive strategic partner. We must fill that partnership with cooperation that is beneficial for our country and at the same time for the region and the world,” President Jokowi said through his Instagram account on Tuesday.
