A

mid the ongoing Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movement and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issuing a fatwa on boycotting pro-Israel products, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) Indonesia has addressed the escalating boycotts.

Lucia Karina, public affairs, communication and sustainability director for Indonesia and PNG at CCEP, expressed her inability to comment extensively on the action during a media panel discussion in Jakarta, citing that “all parties have the opportunity to do business.”

“The Prophet Muhammad also stated, ‘Let's try and sell to anyone’. That's why I don't want to comment because this concerns the human rights of everyone," she said at the "SNI Recycled PET: Balancing Safety and Environment in Packaging Regulation" panel discussion on Tuesday.

Karina clarified that Coca-Cola products in Indonesia are manufactured by Indonesians using local ingredients.

"Whatever happens, all of these products are produced by Indonesians using local Indonesian products for Indonesia. That's all,” she said. “What is clear is that the world is always moving with all that. The important thing is, let's pray for peace.”

In a related development, the Turkish parliament recently removed Coca-Cola and Nestle products from restaurants within the parliament building. Turkey’s Grand National Assembly said that products of companies supporting Israel will not be sold in establishments on the parliament campus.
