omegrown shrimp farming tech provider Jala has raised US$13.1 million in a series A funding round as the start-up sets its sights on expansion into remote areas of the country.
The funding round was led by Indonesian venture capital firm Intudo Ventures, with participation from Sinar Mas corporate venture arm Sinar Mas Digital Ventures as well as existing investors Mirova and Meloy Fund.
“This funding will enable us to bring our end-to-end shrimp farming solution to remote areas in Indonesia and equip local farmers with the technological and financial support they need in advancing the country’s shrimp production,” said Jala CEO and cofounder Liris Maduningtyas in a statement released on Tuesday.
The company intends to scale up its operations across the country, focusing on Sumatra, Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara, three key areas identified for their “unique potential” in advancing the shrimp farming industry.

The duo developed a smartphone app to monitor shrimp cultivation in a country that still relies heavily on traditional methods.
