Indonesia and Eramet have previously inked a partnership to look for lithium deposits in Bledug Kluwu, Central Java.
he Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is seeking to expand cooperation with French miner Eramet to explore critical mineral deposits in more areas of Indonesia, especially deposits containing lithium, one of the essential materials in producing electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
The ministry and Eramet previously announced a partnership in new mineral deposits on May 6, including a potential deposit in Bledug Kluwu, Central Java, which they expect will expedite Indonesia’s efforts to become a global hub for EVs.
Irwandy Arif, the energy minister’s special staffer, said the ministry was open to the possibility of collaborating with Eramet to explore new mineral deposits in West Sulawesi.
“There are other [potential] sources [of mineral deposits], like West Sulawesi, that could be next,” he said in Jakarta on Friday, as reported by Bisnis Indonesia.

The joint work between Eramet and the Geology Agency is slated to begin in August this year.
