Sandiaga said on Monday that the endowment fund would be prioritized for large scale events and those deemed to produce low carbon emissions and to promote better waste management.
ourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that the president gets to select which events will get funded by the Indonesia Quality Tourism Fund (IQTF), a scheme that is expected to start next year.
Sandiaga said on Monday the endowment fund would be prioritized for large scale events and those that will produce a low carbon emission.
He explained the tourism fund would be managed by the Indonesian Environment Fund (BPDLH), an agency under the Finance Ministry.
Initially, the tourism fund will get Rp 2 trillion (US$122.93 million) when first enacted, which would come from the 2025 state budget as an injection into BPDLH.
“The difference is these events would have to be ‘green’ with low carbon emission and good waste management,” Sandiaga said after a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and other ministers, as quoted from Antara.

The fund, he said, will also target events deemed capable of increasing tourist arrivals and promoting Indonesia internationally.
