A

pple has released the new iPhone 16 in over twenty countries, but Indonesian customers would have to wait longer for the product, due to the country’s local content rules (TKDN), the Industry Ministry revealed.

To date, Apple has not fulfilled its promised investment in Indonesia by establishing a total of four Research and Development (R&D) facilities in the country, the ministry’s spokesman, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif said, as reported by Kumparan.

He said this has hindered the phone-maker’s application in the country’s local content registry.

“The iPhone 16 has submitted its TKDN application, but first we are verifying the realization of the Rp 1.6 trillion [US$101.6 million] investment for R&D facilities. It is supposed to be a new [investment], so we’re waiting for that to be realized first,” Febri said on Sunday.
