T

he Office of the Coordinating Social Empowerment Minister hopes for a Rp 100 trillion (US$6.5 billion) increase to the social aid budget for next year, banking on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for ministries and agencies to reduce budget leaks in each institution.

Coordinating Social Empowerment Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said on Thursday it is possible to redirect funds from reduced budget leaks toward poverty alleviation and economic resilience.

"The President has repeatedly emphasized the importance of efficiency and closing all budgetary leakages in one decisive move," said Muhaimin at a central and regional government coordination meeting in Bogor, West Java, as quoted from Detik.com.

“We hope this effort will be successful, allowing an additional Rp 100 trillion to be channeled into the social aid budget in 2025.”

Currently, the government has earmarked over Rp 504 trillion for social aid in 2025, the second largest expenditure after education at over Rp 722 trillion.

The additional budget would help accelerate the reduction of poverty and extreme poverty by empowering the economically vulnerable, the minister said.
