uel shortages have hit many gas stations operated by Shell Indonesia and BP Indonesia in cities across Java. The government blamed the disruption on delayed import shipments.

“There are private companies whose tankers haven’t arrived yet. Perhaps this is just a shipping issue,” Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Monday, as quoted by Kumparan.

The government approved import permits in January, he emphasized, but technical issues have hampered deliveries.

“Shell should have no issues, [since] we have granted the import permit,” he added.

Bahlil attributed the delays in arrival to issues with the procurement of fuel imports by private companies, noting that some ships and cargo were still en route, though he declined to reveal any specifics on volumes that had been delivered or were pending.
