Both institutions assured the cut will not affect their employees that are classified as state servants.
tate-owned radio station RRI and state-run television TVRI have cut their contract workers and contributors, following President Prabowo Subianto’s sweeping budget cuts to all ministries and agencies amid the need to fund other priority programs.
Both institutions assured the cut wont affect their employees that are classified as state servants.
RRI spokesperson Yonas Markus Tuhuleruw said on Monday that the radio station saw its budget drop from Rp 1.07 trillion (US$65.47 million) to over Rp 707 billion this year, as quoted from Tempo.
While the cut would not affect its broadcast, Yonas said the radio station decided to slash its contract workers and contributors, but emphasized it was a last resort.
Some broadcasters from the state-run station took their grievances online, highlighting the plight of hundreds of workers who have been laid-off.
Rumah Jurnalis, a press coalition in Central Sulawesi, criticized TVRI’s decision to cut at least 15 journalists and broadcasters in the region, as reported by Tempo on Monday.
TVRI president director Iman Brotoseno said the company decided to temporarily halt employing contributors for the tv station, but stressed that such changes were up to each regional station’s needs.
