Even prior to Dony Oskaria’s appointment, analysts had suggested the removal of Erick Thohir could lead to the dissolution of the SOEs Ministry or its merger with Danantara.

President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Deputy State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Dony Oskaria as interim SOEs minister.

Dony, who also holds the position of chief operating officer (COO) at state asset fund Danantara, will fill the position left vacant after Erick Thohir was appointed youth and sports minister in the latest cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday.

“At the instruction of the President, and after we conveyed it to the relevant parties, in this case the SOEs Ministry, it was decided that Dony Oskaria has been appointed interim SOEs minister to carry out the ministry’s duties,” State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

Prasetyo added that the President expects Dony to quickly adapt to the new role, given his track record.

“The consideration is, first, he is already deputy minister, and second, he is COO of Danantara. The hope is that with this assignment, the ongoing restructuring of our SOEs can proceed more quickly,” he said.
