ndonesia should stand firm in maintaining its stance of not disrupting trade arrangements with other countries amid ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States, National Economic Council (DEN) head Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said.

The former senior minister revealed that he met with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick last week for tariff talks and described the negotiations as progressing well. However, he asserted that Indonesia would not comply with every demand made by Washington.

“We can’t just be ordered around. For example, [the US] prohibits the use of Chinese-flagged vessels or those made in China,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Luhut said he had discussed the matter with Lutnick, explaining that such a request would increase costs for Indonesia and risk violating certain domestic laws.
