griculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said Indonesia is well positioned to export rice this year after achieving self-sufficiency, with rice absorption by State Logistics Agency (Bulog) considered secure.

“The key is Bulog. If its permits and absorption over the next three months are effectively the same as in 2025, rice exports are almost certain to take place this year,” Amran said on Wednesday during a national harvest event in Karawang, West Java.

He emphasized that rice exports would mark a historic milestone for Indonesia, following the stabilization of national supply and the successful management of strategic food reserves amid rising domestic production.

Amran said government rice reserves (CBP) currently stand at 3.2 million tonnes nationwide, after previously reaching 4 million tonnes in mid-2025.

Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows national rice production reached 34.71 million tonnes in 2025, exceeding annual domestic demand.

Beyond government reserves, rice consumption in the hotel, restaurant and catering (Horeca) sector has also reached a record high, totaling 12 million tonnes nationwide.

According to Amran, Indonesia’s halt of rice imports has reduced international demand and pushed global rice prices sharply lower, from around US$660 per tonne to $368 per tonne, a decline of 44.2 percent.
