All structures in Nusantara should follow green building approach: Jokowi Screenshot of the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat

P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has emphasized the need for all structures within the new capital Nusantara to adhere to environmentally friendly building practices.

During the inauguration of the central general hospital (RSUP) in Nusantara, Jokowi stressed the importance of integrating green principles into construction endeavors to uphold eco-friendly standards, along with the need for developers to prioritize eco-consciousness so as to ensure that the environment flourishes alongside the city's green spaces.

To strengthen these eco-friendly initiatives, the President participated in tree-planting activities across various locations within the new capital, including the Axis of Nationality area and the Forest and Land Rehabilitation Location for the Central Government District (KIPP). Jokowi expressed the intention of transforming Nusantara into a unique green capital, setting it apart as a model not replicated elsewhere through reforestation efforts, including planting endemic trees.

Previously, the Directorate General of Human Settlements at the Public Works and Housing Ministry affirmed the application of green building (BGH) and smart building (BGC) principles in governmental construction projects within Nusantara. The ministry's commitment extends to enhancing green infrastructure throughout Indonesia, recognizing its pivotal role in sustaining the environment's physical aspects and biocapacity during developmental phases.

This approach allows the government to safeguard natural systems while prioritizing social, cultural and economic facets, thereby enhancing the community's quality of life. Staged until 2045, Nusantara is envisioned as the Future Smart Forest City of Indonesia, a testament to the nation's commitment to establishing a modern, sustainable smart city in alignment with global benchmarks.
