PDI-P secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto said Ganjar, whose résumé on foreign policy is somewhat thin, would tackle the issues of defense and diplomacy and craft policies that would combine the two issues.
senior member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said on Friday that the campaign platform of the party's presidential candidate, Ganjar Pranowo, who is currently the governor of Central Java, would focus tightly on geopolitical issues.
PDI-P secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto said Ganjar, whose résumé on foreign policy is somewhat thin, would tackle the issues of defense and diplomacy and craft policies that would combine the two issues.
"We're currently drafting the campaign platform for Ganjar Pranowo's presidential bid, wherein we will combine diplomacy and defense," Hasto said, as quoted by Antara.
He claimed the combination of the issues would allow Indonesia to gain the upper hand in an uncertain world rife with geopolitical tension.
The senior PDI-P politician, who is also a trusted aide to party chair Megawati Soekarnoputri, said some of the insights from the country’s founding president Soekarno would be incorporated into Ganjar's platform.
Soekarno, Hasto claimed, considered politics and international diplomacy the most important variables in determining the success of a nation's navigation of geopolitical tensions.
"If we can mix foreign policy diplomacy and defense diplomacy, we will come out strong," Hasto said.
