The President's eldest son has confirmed that he and Prabowo will be meeting tonight, though he remained tight-lipped about any potential topics of discussion.
urakarta Mayor Rakabuming Raka Gibran, the eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, is scheduled to hold a meeting with Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto on Friday evening.
"Yes, the meeting is tonight," Gibran said, as quoted by Antara on Friday morning.
But Gibran declined to give any details on the subjects the pair planned to discuss at their meeting, including whether or not they would talk about the recent gathering of Jokowi supporters in Jakarta dubbed Musyawarah Rakyat (Musra), or people's discussion.
"Let's just wait [and see] what we're going to discuss tonight [...] and please don't make any suggestions in relation to the Musra," Gibran said.
President Jokowi advised his supporters during the Musra on May 14 to vote for the “right candidate” in the 2024 election, as the next president would be pivotal to deciding the country's direction in the long run.
Jokowi made no mention in his speech of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, the presumptive candidate and a fellow member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
The President said his successor should have the capacity to guide the nation during its transition into a developed nation by exploiting the demographic dividend. This led many to speculate that the statement indicated tacit support for Defense Minister Prabowo, his erstwhile rival in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections.
