S

outh Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor has filed a pretrial motion against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for naming him as a bribery suspect in a case related to a rigged tender for several local infrastructure projects.

The antigraft body declared the governor a suspect last Tuesday after arresting eight people in the province in connection with the case.

Investigators suspect Sahbirin of negotiating an illicit payment amounting to at least Rp 1 billion (US$64,231) from businesspeople in exchange for rigging the infrastructure tender in their favor.

In the pretrial motion filed on Thursday at the South Jakarta District Court, Sahbirin alleged that the KPK had violated the legal procedure for declaring a suspect.

He has asked the court to invalidate his suspect status and to order the KPK to stop its investigation into him, South Jakarta District Court spokesperson Djuyamto said on Friday while reading out Sahbirin’s petition, Kompas.id reported.

The antigraft body said separately that it respected Sahbirin’s right to file a pretrial motion.
