T

he House of Representatives has called for a transparent investigation into the recent dismissal of a civil servant at the Higher Education, Science and Technology Ministry, as it sets up a hearing with Minister Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro in Jakarta on Thursday.

The termination, which has since been mediated and reversed, sparked the most glaring protest among state employees in a country where civil servants are rarely inclined to air their grievances about their superiors.

"We at the House hope that all issues within the ministry are addressed transparently," House Speaker Puan Maharani said at the Senayan legislative complex on Tuesday, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

Puan said that House Commission X overseeing education would hear how Minister Satryo came to the decision to unilaterally dismiss a ministry employee, allegedly in violation of standard protocols.

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician said however that any evaluation of the minister’s actions remained the prerogative of President Prabowo Subianto.

On Wednesday, House Commission X deputy chairwoman Esti Wijayati told the press that the hearing would be scheduled for Thursday, Antara reported.
