West Java governor-elect Dedi Mulyadi plans to recruit former ministers and technocrats Ignatius Jonan and Susi Pudjiastuti to help him develop the province’s strategic infrastructures in the next five years.
“We have to collaborate with experts such as Pak Ignasius to be an advisor in transportation [...] and Bu Susi in maritime affairs as West Java is surrounded by water,” Dedi said on Wednesday, accompanied by acting West Java governor Bey Machmudin.
Jonan was the former president director of state railway operator PT KAI, which saw a positive transformation under his leadership with the introduction of a modernized ticketing system, cleaner and safer trains, as well as tidy stations.
He also served as transportation minister from 2014 to 2016 and energy and mineral resources minister from 2016 to 2019 under then-president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration.
Meanwhile, Susi served as Jokowi’s maritime affairs and fisheries minister between 2014 and 2019, and had made waves since the beginning of her assignment as a no-nonsense leader by fearlessly enforcing tough measures including the ship-shinking policy to protect Indonesia’s waters.

Dedi further said that Bey, whom he considers highly skilled in administration and bureaucracy management, would assist him during his term.
“So, there will be many experts we’ll invite, including Pak Bey [...] he is an outstanding expert in administration and bureaucracy management,” said Dedi, who also mentioned Bey’s aspiration to develop the Greater Bandung commuter line (KRL) that will cover Cicalengka, Bandung and Padalarang regions.
According to Bey, the new transportation scheme could significantly reduce traffic congestion, especially if operated at ideal intervals.
In addition to the KRL development, Dedi has initiated discussions on the construction of the Pasteur-Lembang toll road that will cover strings of popular tourism sites in the province.
