T

he North Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPU) has officially declared Bobby Nasution the winner of the province's gubernatorial race after the Constitutional Court nixed an election dispute petition from losing candidate Edy Rahmayadi.

The agency made the decision after an open plenary meeting in the North Sumatra's capital Medan on Wednesday afternoon.

"With this declaration, all the electoral processes for the North Sumatra gubernatorial process are officially concluded," agency head Agus Arifin said after the meeting.

Neither Bobby and his running mate Asahan regent Surya, nor Edy and his running mate Hasan Basri, attended the plenary meeting.

The Constitutional Court dismissed 270 of the 310 election dispute petitions filed following the simultaneous regional elections in November of last year.

The court's justices rejected Edy’s petition challenging Bobby’s victory on Tuesday, arguing that the vote margin between the two candidates was too wide.

“The court was not sure of the validity of the plaintiff’s petition [...] therefore, there is no relevance in continuing the petition to the next steps of hearings,” Justice Guntur Hamzah stated, as quoted by Kompas.
