loods and landslides have struck multiple regions across Indonesia following days of heavy rain, leaving at least one person dead and forcing hundreds to flee, as authorities warn of more extreme weather during the seasonal transition.
In Demak, Central Java, an eight-year-old girl who had been missing since Friday amid rising floodwater was found dead over the weekend.
According to the local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), three vital embankments holding back water from parts of the Tuntang River collapsed after heavy rain struck the area, causing the river to overflow and inundate hundreds of homes to depths of up to 1.5 meters.
In its latest report issued on Monday afternoon, the Demak BPBD said more than 1,300 households had been affected, while a dozen residents remained in shelters.
Last week, nearly 3,000 residents from four districts in Demak, namely Guntur, Karangtengah, Wonosalam and Kebonagung, took refuge in government buildings, mosques and schools.
