he immigration office in Bekasi, West Java, is currently questioning 78 foreigners who were netted during the Wira Waspada enforcement operation for working without proper documentation at a construction project in Deltamas, Bekasi regency.
The head of the West Java Regional Office of the Immigration Directorate General, Jaya Saputra, said the office was investigating whether the foreign nationals’ stay permits were compatible with their activities.
“We are still checking whether their stay permits are in line with their activities while they are in Indonesia, especially in Bekasi regency,” he said in Bekasi on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said the foreigners were detained while working in the project area and could not produce immigration documents, passports or stay permits, during the inspection.
Jaya said the foreign workers were working at a construction site in Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) in Deltamas, Pasir Ranji subdistrict, Central Cikarang district, building a data center, a mess and a logistical warehouse, as reported by tribunnews.com.
He said the foreigners were detained for violating Article 122a of the 2011 Immigration Law on conducting activities not in accordance with issued stay permits.
The detained comprise 76 Chinese nationals, a Malaysian and a Vietnamese. They were all brought to Bekasi Immigration Office for identification and further investigation.
