n Italian man, identified as GI, was deported from Bali on Tuesday after his emotional action against an Indonesian police officer went viral on social media.
Ngurah Rai Immigration Office head Bugie Kurniawan said the 24-year-old Italian was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on a Qatar Airways flight to Doha.
"We deported the Italian man on Tuesday," Bugie said in a statement on Wednesday.
The authorities decided to deport GI because he had physical contact with a traffic police officer in Denpasar.
His action was uploaded to TikTok and Instagram and went viral.
The incident took place on April 22 when the traffic police officer stopped him on Jl. Gunung Agung as he riding a motorbike without wearing a helmet. His girlfriend, who was riding behind him, wore a helmet.
However, GI responded aggressively when the traffic police officer stopped him and was going to give him a traffic ticket. He objected to the ticket and pushed the officer with his hand, causing the officer to fall.
