T

wo people were killed after torrential rain triggered a landslide in Batangtoru, South Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, on Monday afternoon.

Head of Emergency and Logistics at the South Tapanuli Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Idham Halid Pulungan, said the victims were identified as Yasine Gulo, 43, and her 25-year-old son, Sariman Gulo.

“We recovered Yasine’s body on Tuesday and Sarman’s the following day. They were found buried under debris near their home. Their bodies have been transferred to the Batangtoru community health center [Puskesmas],” Idham said on Wednesday.

Authorities said search operations for both victims were carried out under difficult conditions and with extreme caution, as the nearby hillside remained unstable and continued to pose a risk of further landslides.
