T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Muara Enim Regent Edison in South Sumatra in connection with an alleged corruption case, making him the seventh regional head detained by the agency this year.

The anti-graft body arrested Edison along with four other officials from the Muara Enim administration and five individuals from private companies during coordinated raids carried out on Sunday and Monday in Jakarta and South Sumatra.

KPK investigators later brought Edison to the agency’s headquarters in South Jakarta for questioning on Tuesday. Within hours of interrogation, the commission officially named him and four others as suspects in the case.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said on Tuesday that investigators had gathered sufficient preliminary evidence to raise the case to the investigation stage and formally name suspects.

“Of the four individuals named as suspects, some are from the private sector and others are state officials, including Regent Edison,” he said as quoted by Kompas.id.

Budi said Edison and the other suspects are alleged to have received bribes and gratuities linked to procurement activities within the Muara Enim Education and Culture Agency, although he did not provide further details of the case.
